Another of Nottinghamshire’s old and attractive market towns, Retford was granted its market charter way back in 1105. Evidence of early human activity around Retford stretches back to the Mesolithic period. The River Idle and the Chesterfield Canal both pass through the centre of Retford.

Whilst the Sheffield to Lincoln Line has links to Sheffield, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Worksop, Grimsby, and Cleethorpes. The busy canal is now used for leisure purposes, rather than transporting lead, iron, coal timber, and food products, as it did historically.
