    Why Move to Retford?

Another of Nottinghamshire’s old and attractive market towns, Retford was granted its market charter way back in 1105. Evidence of early human activity around Retford stretches back to the Mesolithic period. The River Idle and the Chesterfield Canal both pass through the centre of Retford.

Living in Retford provides a comfortable lifestyle with the countryside at its heart.
There are 30 known ancient woodlands of more than 2 hectares in the area, and the town is surrounded by a rich and diverse ecosystem including rare and endangered animals and birds.

However, the town is by no means short on the practicalities of life. Bypassed by the A1 trunk road and the A57 links Retford to a number of major towns and cities, including London, just over two hours away. Retford is also served by two railway lines. East Coast Main Line services run between London and Scotland. Trains take around 1hour 20 minutes to reach London Kings Cross.

Whilst the Sheffield to Lincoln Line has links to Sheffield, Lincoln, Gainsborough, Worksop, Grimsby, and Cleethorpes. The busy canal is now used for leisure purposes, rather than transporting lead, iron, coal timber, and food products, as it did historically.
Not only can residents enjoy the plentiful supply of beautiful landscapes, but there are also some great attractions close at hand.

Sundown Adventureland is a 30-acre children’s theme park and a great family day out.
Retford manages to seamlessly blend a semi-rural location with oodles of natural scenery together with all you need to enjoy a 20th-century existence.

    Retford Schools & Education

Schools will always be a major concern for parents relocating to a new area.

Retford has access to 9 primary schools within a 1½ mile radius of the town centre.
Each school is rated as “good” by Ofsted with the exception of Car Hill Primary & Nursery, which according to Ofsted “requires improvement”.

Older children can attend several secondaries. However, Retford Oaks Academy is the closest. It also offers Post 16 education via its Sixth Form provision.

The school had impressive exam results when figures were last released in 2019, boasting an overall pass rate of 97% and almost a fifth of all students achieved the top A*-B grades.
