    Why Move to Thatcham?

Thatcham is an historic market town and civil parish in the county of Berkshire. The town straddles the River Kennet and the Kennet and Avon Canal.
Since we have all experienced the Covid lockdowns, people who have historically chosen to reside in London have seen the benefits of living outside the city.

Many estate agents located in the commuter belt areas surrounding London have reported sharp increases in buyers looking to move to homes in areas which offer more square footage and larger gardens such as Thatcham.

Although the town may not be the closest to the capital, it does offer a direct journey by train of 43mins into Paddington Station. Other services from Thatcham Station include Reading (18 minutes) and Newbury (6 minutes) both also ideal for easy commutes.
Another positive factor for interested buyers is Thatcham’s low property prices. The average price paid for a home in September 2021 was £411,531, undeniably significantly cheaper compared to London.

A good assortment of local shops is complemented by the Kingsland shopping centre and a weekly street market, held on Fridays. For any other major purchases, Newbury has all you need. Its Kennet Shopping centre is the place to go for high-street fashions, health & beauty, and homeware, plus there is a cinema and several fast-food outlets on site. Convenient Thatcham pretty much provides all you need across the board. If Thatcham doesn’t have it, with several larger towns and of course London close by one of these certainly will.

    Thatcham Schools & Education

Local schools are run by West Berkshire Council.

If you are arriving from outside the area you can find out more about how to apply for a school place by going directly to the council website: www.westberks.gov.uk/schools.

However, since then through hard work and dedication just two years later in May 2016 Ofsted announced that it was “outstanding” A fantastic improvement which it has managed to maintain to date.
