    Reasons to move to Brisbane:

The city enjoys year-round gloriously warm weather with acres of green open spaces which make it the ideal location to start or raise a family.

The city enjoys a subtropical and humid climate with consistently high temperatures – you can expect around 283 days of sunshine per year!
As a green city you can cycle (or even kayak) to work thanks to the cities extensive range of safe and user-friendly cycle lanes, as well as the river pathways.

Move aside Sydney and Melbourne, there’s a new kid on the block.

If you’re ready to make the move to Australia, Brisbane should seriously be on your radar.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, the north-eastern state of Australia and has a population of around 2.4 million people (London by comparison is nearly 9 million).

Bustling ‘Brissie’ as it is affectionately known by locals is Queensland’s tropical ‘River city’ and is jam- packed with bars, shopping arcades and stunning beaches, as well as a thriving music and arts scene.

Affordability is also a huge factor in the trend towards Brits moving to Brisbane. And while average house prices are on the rise they are still well below those of its east coast neighbours.

Life in Brisbane is easy going with an emphasis placed on an effective work-life balance with family and friends.

It’s fairly typical to see city workers flocking to the compact and functional CBD by day, before returning to their plush riverside homes or the beach for a barbeque in the evening.

When the client has accepted the quoted price and a move date has been secured, the vehicle and removal team will arrive at residence.

Special made-to-measure wooden creates can also be used for difficult to move or fragile items.

Our dedicated team in the UK & Australia will ensure all the relevant paperwork and customs clearance is processed correctly.

They will arrange the unloading and unpacking of your household goods ready for checks or inspections.

Once your belongings have cleared customs, you will be contacted to discuss a convenient time to deliver them if not already agreed.

White & Company offers secure containerised storage facilities via its own depots. We have 19 strategically placed storage facilities throughout the UK to choose from.

Our partners in Australia can also off your storage facilities should you require them.

    Insurance For Removals to Brisbane

Despite our best efforts sometimes items get damaged or things go amiss. White & Company always try to minimise problems during the moving process. That’s why we offer limited liability insurance.

Marine insurance is a key consideration when shipping overseas. We recommend you consider protecting your valuable personal possessions while in transit or storage with our ‘All Risk’ Marine Standard Liability cover.

Marine Insurance Cover is offered to you on receipt of a completed Overseas Valuation Form. Such insurance cover is ‘Comprehensive’ and ‘All Risk’ and is based on the values as declared by you on the Overseas Valuation Form.

    Property

Brisbane’s house prices have risen by 13.6% annually since the year 2000, according to the Real Estate Institute of Australia.

The average house price in Brisbane is around AUS$486,000 (£270,174), compared with Sydney where the average is around AUS$852,000 (£473,639).

Monthly rent for an apartment in the city centre is around AUS$1,800 (£1,020), according to the latest stats provided by Expatisan.

You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Brisbane’s tree-lined streets are primped and preened with stylish apartments and plush riverside abodes boasting space you simply won’t find in any inner-city area in the UK.

What property you can afford will depend on your budget and how many people are moving to Brisbane. For example, if you are moving as a couple and only require a one-bedroom apartment, you can expect to pay around AUS$300,000.

If this is your first time moving to Australia chances are that you’ll need to rent first. This gives you the opportunity to check out the area/suburb before you commit to a purchase.

The good news is that rental prices in Brisbane are lower than Sydney, Melbourne and even the nearby Gold Coast.

In fact, a recent rental report has shown Brisbane to be one of the cheapest capital cities to rent across the whole of Australia, beaten only by Adelaide and Perth.

    Living costs

Rent in Brisbane is 47% lower than in London.

Basic utilities (including electricity, gas and heating – if you ever really need it!) for a studio apartment cost around ASU$183 a month (£100).

The average price paid for eating out at a standard restaurant in the CBD is 17% lower than the centre of London.

The cost of expat life in the heart of Australia’s ‘Sunshine State’ does not come cheap.

Many expats remark at just how much dearer certain items are. This includes the heavily taxed alcohol and cigarettes as well as what many would consider to be basic groceries.

There are many ways to save money, however. Lots of money can be saved on the supermarket shop for example by ditching the Woolies or Coles in favour of local farmer’s markets, especially when it comes to buying fruit and veg.

Despite steady increases to the cost of living, expat life is still not as expensive as in Sydney and Melbourne. And if you’re living in London currently you’ll definitely experience huge savings.

    Jobs market

The city enjoys good job prospects with a rise of 7.6% in employment in the five-year period leading to November 2018, and future projections for further growth.

Health care and social assistance are the biggest employers in both Brisbane and the Greater Brisbane area, as of May 2019.

Proposals for six new mining sites in the Galilee Basin in Queensland are projected to create up to 16,000 new jobs.

Looking for a well-paying job? Fear not. The city’s northern location places it a strategic advantage to benefit from trade with the emerging ‘Tiger Economy’ in South East Asia.

Greater Brisbane’s economy is worth AUS$171bn and is primarily service-led.
Most jobs in Brisbane are in retail, education, public administration and security with a massive demand for workers in health and social care.

The tourism industry continues to grow rapidly and brings in an abundance of backpackers and other tourists each year. Tourism exports currently contribute up to AUS$7.4bn to the local economy.

Of course, many people who live in or close to Brisbane benefit from the labour force in Queensland where the main source of work is in mining and agriculture.

Planned changes to the skilled worker visa are designed to encourage expats to move to the more rural areas outside of Brisbane CBD into high paying jobs in those sectors.

    Schools

A good mixture of non-fee paying state and faith schools and well as private options.

Opportunities for expat children to follow a structured programme from their home country.

An international reputation for education with no less than three universities: The University of Queensland, Griffith University and the Queensland University of Technology.

Brisbane is the place where opportunity knocks.

Most children will attend one of the city’s many free public schools but there are also many fee-paying and faith schools available, catering for all ages from six to 18.

Those expats that are only intending to stay short-term (1 -5 years) or are simply trialling life down under may wish to enrol their child in an internationally recognised programme.

Programmes such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme are widely on offer in Queensland and provide an alternative to A Levels in the UK, which is recognised globally.

The city of Brisbane is home to no less than three universities, of which the University of Queensland is one of Australia’s oldest and most in demand universities with a research intensive focus.
