Why Move to Waltham Abbey
Waltham Abbey is a charming market town which is a lovely mix of old and new. A lively local community gives it an intimate feel making it very popular with families, with the added bonus of excellent travel connections. Historically gunpowder and other explosives were manufactured in secrecy here for more than 300 years, they were shipped by canal barge all over the south of the UK.
Other notable features of Waltham Abbey are that Harold Godwinson, who later became King Harold II was laid to rest in the local church. Connections are superb. The town is located just off the M25, close to the M11 and only 16 miles north-east of central London with half-hourly trains to London Liverpool Street 30 minutes and Harlow 55 minutes. London Stansted airport is a 30-minute drive away.
Being situated on the river Lea offers residents the access to some very pretty riverside scenery where children can feed the ducks and swans, whilst for those for those seeking peace and quiet, the Abbey Gardens provide the ideal spot for a touch of serenity
The busy hub of the town has a pretty cobbled high street, lined with a great variety of shops, pubs, and cafes.
In Market Square you can buy Tony’s Pie & Mash, apparently once a big favourite of the footballer David Beckham! Economically sound, commerce continues to expand throughout Waltham Abbey and the recent construction of the largest distribution centre in the south of England for the Sainsbury supermarket chain, has given an added and much-needed financial boost to its local economy.
This wonderful Essex town delivers so much, and its peaceful surroundings paired with the vitality of town life and having London at your fingertips makes it a highly desirable place to reside.
