    Why Move to Wandsworth?

Of late and in ever more increasing numbers, people are moving south of the river Thames.

People are being lured here by the region’s cheaper property but also because of the relative safety aspect it offers along with its relaxed atmosphere, perfect for families in particular.

Wandsworth has a little of everything. A huge borough which incorporates very good amenities, enough green space for all and plenty of lovely neighbourhoods offering their own unique little residential bubble.

Plus, depending on how you get there, you can be in central London within 20 minutes. You can reach the hubs on the eastern side of the borough on the Northern Line and the western side on the District Line. And then there is the Overground. In between, there is a huge network of buses, many of which run 24 hours a day.

If you enjoy a night out, no need to travel into the capital because Wandsworth has a swathe of great restaurants, Michelin Starred if that is your preference, plus a host of other cuisines to suit everyone’s taste and budget.

    Shopping Ideas

Everyone loves to get in a bit of shopping now and then, and it is a bonus when you don’t have to travel far to indulge your retail therapy cravings.

Head across Northcote Road on the weekend, and you will find a fabulous market that is one of London’s favourites or the local shopping mall Southside Shopping Centre. In combination with all these positives, the cherry on the cake is that the area is still an affordable choice for a house move.

If you have been considering whether or not to move to Wandsworth, what are you waiting for? Strike now before everyone realises its many positive attributes and property values start to boom.

    Wandsworth Schools & Education

Education provision will be a concern if you have children or are planning a family in the near future.

Although the wider Borough has a wide range of schools to choose from, both private and state, it will depend on where you choose to live as to what is directly available.

It pays to do some research well before you move. Wandsworth Council are responsible for overseeing the local education provision and their web site is a good place to start your search:

    www.wandsworth.gov.uk/schools-and-admissions/

Whilst the majority of schools have been rated as “good” by Ofsted a number have managed to reach a little further and have been given the highly regarded rating of “outstanding.

Schools in this category include St Michael’s CofE Primary School, Brandlehow Primary School and for 16-18 years, Ashcroft Technology Academy.

There are a few further education colleges to choose from in the vicinity, however South Thames College is situated in the heart of Wandsworth.

The college is part of a large further education network which includes three other colleges: Kingston College, Merton College, and Carshalton College. As of 2020, STCG has over 5,300 students each on study and adult programmes.

Wandsworth is home to some prestigious private schools, including Eaton House The Manor, The Roche School and Wandsworth Preparatory School.

Nearby Green space includes Wandsworth Common, Wandsworth Park, Clapham Common and King George’s Park.

The largest is Wandsworth Common 172 acres offering a number of ponds and a lake, which can be used for fishing. The lake is partially fenced off for the benefit of bird life, while other areas feature wooden pedestrian board walks, or open water’s edge access.
There are also tennis courts, a bowling green, and a cafe bar in the grounds, named ‘The Skylark’. A fitness trail, popular with local runners, dog walkers and cyclists.

    Wandsworth Property

Due to its size anywhere in the borough would make a good location, however, there are always going to be some neighbourhoods which are more in demand.

For Wandsworth these are Balham, Putney or Clapham but expect to pay a little more for these areas.

The Tonsleys/Old York Road is a residential area of old Wandsworth close to the river and town centre, so called because many of the street names have the word “Tonsley” included. It has a charming village feel with the Old York Road’s cafes and shops at its heart.

The former wharf area of the riverfront is now lined with new contemporary apartment blocks, along with several bars and restaurants, great for younger folk.
