Great Yarmouth is among one of the most popular seaside locations in the county. Originally a major fishing port that flourished in the 1700s, it has also been a popular family holiday destination for generations as well as an ideal place to relocate to.
Norfolk is one of the few counties in England that does not have a motorway, but this doesn’t mean you can’t travel around the region or even abroad relatively easily.
The main A11 offers several routes to larger towns such as Cambridge (52 miles). Meanwhile, the A47 heads west to Bury St Edmunds (31 miles), with the A1075 leading south to Thetford (19 miles). The Great Eastern Main Line provides various rail services across the region and beyond. Norwich International Airport offers flights within Europe, including a link to Amsterdam with onward flights across the globe.

Education standards in Norfolk vary from place to place however, the consensus is that Norfolk provides a good all-round education across all age groups. Whilst the county has many state nursery and primary schools, being largely rural means that some of the smaller villages do not have secondary schools so older children often have to travel out of their local areas.
The same applies to private education. Whilst there are some fantastic options, most independent schools are located close to larger towns.
Gresham’s School in Holt in the north of the county, Thetford Grammar School in Thetford which is Britain’s fifth oldest extant school, Langley School in Loddon, and several in the city of Norwich, including Norwich School and Norwich High School for Girls are some of the more notable independents available.
The City College Norwich and the College of West Anglia are colleges covering Norwich and King’s Lynn as well as Norfolk as a whole. Easton & Otley College, 7 miles west of Norwich, provides agriculture-based courses for the county, parts of Suffolk and nationally.
The University of East Anglia sits on the outskirts of Norwich and Norwich University of the Arts is based in seven buildings in and around the city centre.
The University of Suffolk also runs higher education courses in Norfolk, from multiple locations including Great Yarmouth College.
