A historic county, Sussex can be found in South-east England and is bordered by Hampshire, Surrey, and Kent. The county is divided into three ceremonial counties of West Sussex and East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
Sussex’s history is rich, with the county being the home of some of Europe’s earliest recorded great apes, whose remains have been found at Boxgrove, West Sussex.

Things to do in Sussex
Sussex is a particularly green county, of which the beautiful rolling chalk hills of the South Downs National Park occupies a large area. Here you can find a good assortment of outside activities to get involved with or perhaps explore the area for yourself.
Sussex is home to several areas of designated outstanding beauty, this includes the wooded Sussex Weald, which stretches across East and West Sussex, and into Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. It contains 50 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and with the highest ridge of the Weald rising 223m sea level, it offers imposing views all over the county and is certainly a must visit.
There is an endless amount of exploring to be done across Sussex with the total length of footpaths amounting to 1281 miles. Some of numerous promoted walks in the county include; Landscape Trail, Weald Way, 1066 Country Walk, Saxon Shore Way, Vanguard Way and Sussex Border Path.
The most famous battle in British history, the Battle of Hastings, took place in Sussex in October 1066, not actually at Hastings but a little inland at Battle. Battle Abbey was built by William the Conqueror on the spot where Harold is reputed to have died, it is now a very informative centre to visit, providing information about the battle as well as offering the opportunity to look out over where the battle took place.
Children are also well catered for in Sussex. Aldingbourne Country Centre is certainly up there on the list, the little ones will love the animals on the open farm, the maze, mini golf, ride-on tractors, castle playground, sand and water play and Woodland Walks.
If it’s a rainy day you can always book a trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Hastings, where the kids can experience incredibly close encounters with seahorses, native sharks, giant octopus and hundreds of amazing aquatic creatures!

There are many types of beautiful character homes in Sussex from thatched country cottages, manor houses, ultra-modern new builds and everything in between. Many Sussex towns have large multi storey Victorian homes facing the sea, these are particularly in demand when they come onto the market.
